I'm using st which supports truecolor and also nvim.

I run NVIM_TUI_ENABLE_TRUE_COLOR=1 nvim and then select gruvbox.

$TERM is tmux-256color.

I got tmux true colors working and documented my process in the wiki

Instructions are different for the original branch of gruvbox because it does not fully support TERM values of tmux*, so you may have to set TERM to screen-256color instead of tmux-256color.

If there are any more tmux issues that pop up in the original issue or you can't get tmux working, please reopen.
