The package.json is copied by tsc because it's imported by src/cli.ts.
It would be nice if src/cli.ts imported package.json in a way that:

  • it works when compiled to JavaScript
  • it doesn't raise warnings when developing in Typescript

Maybe remove outDir from tsconfig.json and edit include and exclude?
