Hey there,

Nice to see the icontheme shaping up.

If you want, I remove my opendesktop-page, so you can create your own. This way, you will receive plings (if you configured it) on it. Or, I can do nothing and refer to your github-page, but then I would continue receiving plings, which would not be fair, because you are doing all the work. Anyway, let me know your intentions. As soon as you decide to start your own page at gnome-look, I will remove mine, so you get the plings.

If it is your intention to make it part of the general Suru++ page, then let me know, so I can remove my page.

Next, do you have the intention to make a version for Arrongin?

And finally: please correct my name on the opendesktop-page (it is spelled wrong). I would prefer though, that you use the name Paulxfce, instead of my real name.

Hi @paullinuxthemer

If you want, I remove my opendesktop-page, so you can create your own. This way, you will receive plings (if you configured it) on it.

To receives plings requires me to pay once to support OpenDesktop, then while I can not pay. On day 15 June I will pay and configure a new page at OpenDesktop/Gnome-Look, because today I am doing a term paper for my college and work with redesigning and reprogramming Jovan Petrović's United for dark theme as an user of Suru++ dark icons has requested.

Next, do you have the intention to make a version for Arrongin?>

When I will get many college things done I have to deliver the next month and after all things delivered the next month, I will start my holidays, then I will redesign and reprogram the Arrogin.

And finally: please correct my name on the opendesktop-page (it is spelled wrong). I would prefer though, that you use the name Paulxfce, instead of my real name.

OK, I will contact Andrea to update his page.

@paullinuxthemer

I have update the name on Andrea's page at OpenDesktop.

I've just tested it briefly I have some concern about the way you make the icontheme available. At gnome-look.org it is custom to make available only one easy-downloadable-extractable file, which after extraction can simply be put in the .icons-folder or the usr/share/icons-folder. The instructions with CLI/ without CLI require to much knowledge on the users-part. Also, it seems to require 2 sets of themes to make it work with the manual version and renaming them. This complicate things. I'm concerned that many will be frustrated to have to do this. And finally the Suru -icontheme is indeed available in Ubuntu 18.04, but not in any other distro's... I, for example, use manjaro-gnome. So handing out instructions for Ubuntu (or debian based) only is a bit unfair for other distributions.

Do you mean OCS Install?

It is need to rename the folders that the symlinks will work. Therefore, I am developing the PPA. At the moment, I am solving the symlinks problems, because Andrea removed some original icons, causing the symlinked icons to be unrecognised, giving fail in the compilation to PPA. I asked him to correct the symlinked icons pointed to removed old icons.

I am thinking in new goals — create non-symlinks icons in all icons themes, that the users will not have to install more than themes required. The with/without CLI will be a lot reduced. What do you think?

After getting everything, I will focus on Fedora, openSUSE and Arch Linux.

Well, it will be a momentus undertaking (creating non-symlinks icons). I'm not that well equiped to serve you an answer (I'm a GTK-themer, not an icon-themer)), I only know that maintaining an icontheme is a continuous enterprise, more so, if you try to satisfy every DE/ distro/App out there.
About the install: the files you provide contain everything (icontheme, GTK-theme, wallpapers, cursor-theme) which is a bit to much if you only want the icontheme. Because now, you put ALL of it in the .icons-folder (or usr/share/icons) including the theme, wallpapers,...if you follow the instructions you provide for the 'without CLI'-method.

It would be better if you seperate everything, because the underlying license of the items are different. (the icons are based on Sam Hewitt's Suru ( LGPLv3), the font is SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1. and also the LGPL 2.1; The gnome-theme has no license provided?; The gnome-shell is GNU Lesser General Public License,* version 2.1; The wallpapers have no license? ... But you only provide the GLPLv3 license in the complete file.
Licenses perhaps do not concern you, but Opendesktop will, if you want to earn plings. So setting up different repositories might be easier in this respect. Or creating different products on Opendesktop for each.
I understand you do the programming, and Andrea the graphics, but it can be financially rewarding to earn plings (paypall) if someone would look at the legal-side of things...

Good suggestions, I will talk with Andrea about it. But only the folder desktops will be maintained only in the Suru++ because the users have problems with AppImage, Snap and source codes icons because the icons are not displayed well (I do not know if you understand what I am meaning).

The fonts, themes and wallpapers will be separated.

As for the licences, here are:

  • Suru Icons of Sam Hewitt: GPL3+ and CC BY-SA 4.0
  • Fonts Overpass: SIL Open Font License and LGPL 2.11
  • GTK United: GPL3
  • Wallpapers, all done by Andrea. Then it must be LGPL3.

Then all Suru++ packs are under LGPL3.

1 I intend to redesign the fonts because I am a typodesigner, to make more Suru-ish.

How is the conflict among these licences? Should we switch to GPL3?

I have just released the suru-plus-pack's PPA, but it applies only to Xenial because I still do not figure how to apply the PPA to popular distributions.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gusbemacbe/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install suru-plus-pack

Firstly I will talk with him if he prefers creating own repositories or I create the repositories at OpenDesktop.

I understand you do the programming, and Andrea the graphics, but it can be financially rewarding to earn plings (paypall) if someone would look at the legal-side of things..

Only Andrea who decides if only he will receive or both we can receive equally.

@paullinuxthemer

Today I have talked with Andrea.

  • He agrees that we should separate everything for each repositories at GitHub. But he prefers being collaborator of repositories, except Suru++, for not being overcharged.
  • He agrees that we should create the pages at OpenDesktop. He prefers working only with Suru++. He is not interested in plings. I will assume the responsibility for creating the pages.

He agreed that we switch to GPL3+.
