College Football Playoff Save Fix in Version 13.6B
The College Football Playoff mod had a bug where if you saved during the Semi-Finals round, and re-loaded that save later, the game would not schedule bowl games correctly. This fix removes the need to recalculate bowl games, and should now allow users to reload saves and not have to be forced to use Save States anymore.

In addition, we forced the National Championship game to be the last game of the season, and this sometimes will fall into its own week!

Integrated Coaching Carousel Mod !!! (works with contracts enabled!)
This mod now allows our "Coaching Carousel" mod to work with contracts enabled. This allows CPU coach stat tracking throughout their careers, and also lets users fire CPU coaches from other teams, and the game will automatically hire a new coach to take their place. In previous versions that we beta-tested around, user coaches could not get contracts because they would disappear forever if they got fired, or if they joined a new team, a CPU coach would also get hired. This updated version now allows all of it to work.
One stipulation -- You can not add, remove, or edit existing user/cpu coaches after the initial setup of a new dynasty.

4th Impact Player Mod with Impact Logic Update
This is currently in beta testing already, but this update allows the opportunity for teams to have a 4th impact player in most situations. It also updates the Impact Player selection logic by the game to allow more diverse selections from other positions.

Team Prestige System Upgrades
This update changes how Team Prestige is calculated at the end of the season. The prestige is now based on this logic system:

6-star = Ranks 1-10
5-star = 11-20
4-star = 21-35
3-star = 36-60
2-star = 61-90
1-star = 91-120

check the team's rank (which is coaches rank or TCRK)
use that rank to set an unofficial TMPR value of 1-6.
if the current team's prestige is higher than their unofficial prestige, lower it by one.
if the current team's prestige is lower than their unofficial prestige, raise it by one.
if the current team's prestige is the same as their unofficial prestige, keep it the same.*

Modern Overtime Rules
This mod re-introduces and fixes bugs with the Modern Overtime Rules!

General Stability updates revolving around UI file fixes
Our modifications to the game's user interface has inadvertently and unknowingly caused stability issues within the game, such as the Positional Change bug that did not show players, or random empty strings or other anomalies. This updated UI file fix should help improve stability, but this is definitely an area where we would like to collect more feedback!

The major new release highlights include:

  • College Football Playoffs
  • Expanded Playbooks
  • Accelerated Play Clock
  • Updated Game Clock rules
  • Modified league structure
  • Updated Textures and Stadiums
  • Game Fixes
  • All-New Batch Mod Set-Up Helper File

V13.1 Quick Fixes

  • FBS/FCS missing roster for new league setup fixed
  • Team Swapping for new league structure now available!!
  • Week 0 now shows in Simulation Menu

V13.2 Update

  • Fix "New" League roster bugs

  • Added Player Jersey Names for various schools

V13.3
Updates to 40 Second Playclock to alleviate quicker play calling by CPU and display issue fixes
Fixed "New Realistic League" bug with Playoff/Bowl phase in dynasty mode

Modified League Structure

This mod now has two league structures to play with. The image below shows the two choices.

NEXT 23 is the same league structure that has been in this mod since V11 and V12. This version will allow some compatibility with existing saves with a DB Editor modification shown later down in this document.

image

The NEXT 23.5 is a new league structure that completely removes two of the conferences from the game, and provides a realistic modern NCAA league format. Due to the team size limitations in the game, the CUSA and MAC conferences had to be combined and truncated to make this work. With V13.1, Team Swapping now fully works with created teams and FCS teams!!

Accelerated Play Clock/Game Clock Rule Change Tips

There is now an accelerated play clock option and game clock rule changes.

The game clock rule changes update the game to have current-day NCAA Football rules. In other words, the game clock continues to run when it is outside the final 2 minutes of each half. It will run on every completed pass or run, no matter if they player goes out of bounds. The clock only stops on change of possession, incomplete passes, or after special team plays. This speeds up the game quite a bit.

The play clock is now set at 40 seconds, instead of the old 25 second play clocks. In addition, if users enable EASY PLAY mode in the game settings menu, the user can go into EASY PLAY menu, and enable accelerated clock. There will be options to change the time when the play clock starts after selecting a play. For example, if the option is set to 20 seconds, the clock will automatically change to 20 seconds after a play is selected if it was above 20 seconds at the time it was chosen. The game clock will also wind down 20 seconds as well. This speeds up game time significantly.

In many user trials, it is recommended to double the Quarter Length to get the same amount of normal play time. This makes playing 12-15 minute quarters quite easy and quick, and it gets pretty realistic stats at 15 minute quarter game play.

Expanded Playbooks

Expanded playbooks is sort of a lie. This mod now allows users to replace the GOAL LINE formation with another other playbook formation the user desires for the USER playbook. A future update may increase more playbook capability.

College Football Playoff

The game now has a 4-team playoff at the end of the season. The semi-finals will occur after championship week, and before bowl games. The National Championship game will fall in the last week of the Bowl season.

For new saves, this works out of the box.

If you would like to convert a V12 (NEXT 23) save, please follow the guide below.

Save Conversion Process

First off, you will need to complete your current season in your save, including the national championship game, BUT DO NOT START THE OFFSEASON, prior to using the new V13 ISO Mod. If you do not, the game will probably crash or do weird things, as it has playoff logic in it and your save won't have the right configuration in it.

  • Once you are past the NC game, but have not entered the off-season, SAVE your dynasty.
  • Open your Dynasty save file in Madden Xtreme DB Editor.
  • Open the BOWL database table in the Editor.
  • Find the BOWL_DB.ZIP file that is in the V13 Download Page, and unzip the contents.
  • Inside should be a BOWL.CSV file. Extract that to somewhere you can find quickly.
  • In DB Editor, click CSV, Import, and choose the BOWL.CSV file.
  • It should now import the new bowl config for the playoff.
  • Save the dynasty save file and put the file back into your memory card if required.

Installation

V12.3.2 NCAA Next 23 - Various Updates and Fixes

January 5th - Update
12.3.2 correctly adds in punters and kickers to in-season recruiting and updates the divisionless league file for new dynasties.

This Update addresses and adds the following:

Coaching Updates (antdroid)
First off, RIP Mike Leach, one of the great offensive innovators of the game and the best pirate to ever coach the game.
We've updated the coaching database with the final coaching carousel moves this off-season. We also updated the coaching budgets, reducing discipline ratio down, and fixed some skin colors.

Transfers Update (jdhalfrack/antdroid)
If you have not heard already, the previous patch included a major overhaul to the transfer portal, allowing hundreds of transfers to occur each off-season. This is a small update to open up some of the criteria even more, but it's impact is a minimal step from the prior patch.

Conference Championships for EVERY Conference with and without Divisions! (jdhalfrack/antdroid)
When the NCAA announced earlier in 2022 that divisions were no longer required for conferences of 12 or more, but still retain conference championship games, and the PAC-12 adopted this rule, along with the ACC, we knew it was time to start digging. After months of trying to piece this one together, we are bringing this new mod to play. Unlike previous mods where we modified existing data and "hex mips code", this specific mod was created by ADDING new lines of code in unused space within the game image. This is breaking new territory of what is possible for this game, and we're excited to bring this one out for all to try!
With that said, this adds conference championship games to EVERY conference in the game for new dynasties as of V12.3. For existing dynasties, users can follow the guide at the end of this post to see how to modify their own dynasties to add more conference champ games. This code change allows for championship games for both conferences with and without divisions. For no divisions, the top 2 teams will meet during Championship week!

In-Game Scheduling Updates/Fixes

  • Fix Timeout Playclock length Issue
We fixed the issue where if a timeout is called the 90 second timeout length does not fast forward after the play calls are made, making CPU take a very long time to snap the ball. Playclock is set to 40 seconds.

  • Fixed 14-Team and 12-Team Conference Scheduling Error (antdroid)
We had previously used a schedule template based on EA's NCAA 14 schedules. After some tests for our 12-game scheduling system, we discovered that the 14-team schedules have errors in them that cause some teams to have more than 1 game in the same week! To fix this, we created custom 14 and 12 team schedules (just to be safe) that are fully balanced, and should not contain any scheduling errors like this. It also makes our next feature work!

  • 12-Game Scheduling (jdhalfrack & antdroid)
Back in 2005, when NCAA 06 was released, having 11 games was the default, and anymore games was actually illegal. It was not until 2006 that the NCAA changed the rules and allowed teams to have a 12 game schedule. Because of this, we had to find a way to allow the game to schedule 12-games automatically, while also keeping the conference rotation working, and not causing database errors or memory issues in the save files. This new system makes about 90% (or more) of the teams have 12 games scheduled by default. Only the worst teams each year may only have 11 games.

  • Week Zero Schedule (jdhalfrack)
I personally still don't understand why Week 0 is called Week 0, but that's what it is, and so we made a Week 0 in the game.

Recruiting Updates

  • Major Recruits Database Updates (jd637, jdhalfrack, antdroid)
The recruits database has seen some changes over the course of the last few updates. We started by changing the 3D models of the recruits to make them more life-like and varied. Then we changed all their starting gears to match more realistic gear choices. Then we updated the skin-tones to give a more realistic representation of the diversity ratios of each position. In this update, we took a lot of the player attributes including height, weight, and various skill attributes, and randomized them by a +/- tolerance to give the entire database more variety and choices. This helps remove the 200 of the same halfbacks for example!

  • NIL Recruiting Pitches (antdroid & jdhalfrack)
We changed the "Playing Time" recruiting pitch to "NIL Assistance" and with it a whole set of new dialogs and captions related to Name, Image, and Likeness.

  • Added Punters and Kickers to in-season recruiting (jdhalfrack)
Pretty self-explanatory. This was not possible before for some reason...

Interface Updates

  • Displaying 120 Teams (jdhalfrack)
The original 06 game had a league size of 119 teams in dynasty mode. We expanded it to 120 in this mod, but some of the displays and rankings only showed the first 119 teams. With this fix, we can now display 120 teams correctly.

  • Updated Player Awards (antdroid)
Modified the player awards to reflect their actual names.

  • Miscellaneous UIS_ALL.DAT Patches (jdhalfrack & antdroid)
Changed some various UI texts that are hidden in compressed databases within the game files. These include things like DIV 1A/1AA to FBS/FCS, and Media Poll to AP Poll, ncaanext in place of easports, and a few other small things.

Stadium Updates

  • B1G Ten Championship Game moved to Lucas Oil Stadium (talon42, antdroid, jdhalfrack)
Since the B1G Champ game is now in the Next mod, we are putting it at Lucas Oil where it is in real-life. We cloned and modified Reliant Stadium to make it work.

  • Big XII Championship Game moved to AT&T Stadium (talon42)
Renamed and Retextured Big XII Championship game

Uniforms Updates

  • Kentucky Alts by cramp! and robotdebris
  • Wisconsin Alt Pants by okand1?
  • Fixed Iowa State Away Numbers
  • Changed Tennessee name plate color to orange from black
  • USC Helmet fix by cramp!
  • Ohio State, Miami, Navy and Fresno State updates by antdroid
  • Washington Royalty in-game Alts by antdroid
  • Hawaii Rainbow Alts by robotdebris

Removed Pride Stickers (antdroid & jdhalfrack)
Many teams have discontinued the use of pride stickers over the years. We disabled the pride stickers using a special in-house tool for the following teams:

  • Arizona
  • Akron
  • Colorado
  • UConn
  • ECU
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Houston
  • Louisville
  • Missouri
  • NC State

Updates and Fixes to V12

Additional alternate uniforms for other teams too by BUBeavers92, Talon, Robot, h4wduk3n, JD637, OK and !?, Antdroid, and others.
Many new uniforms added for teams across FBS and FCS. These are located in Alternates folder!

Renamed Bowls to match real-life bowls by Antdroid & Talon42 / Bowl Logos & Bowl Stadium Updates by Talon42
Talon42 has upgraded many of the bowl game logos and stadium artwork and together Antdroid and him have renamed several bowl names and stadium information to match current day bowl sites.

Transfers Expansion v2 for Dynasty mode by JDHalfrack
JDHalfrack has taken the previous transfers mod to overdrive. With some changes to the game code and some save template modding, we've now improved the game logic for who qualifies to be transferred increasing the pool by an order or two of magnitude (including reducing year count, regional restrictions, depth chart restrictions, etc.), removed transfer year eligibility restrictions, changed the transfer cap per team from 3 to 12, and increased the possible transfers database to 1524.

Gears & Accessories features by JD637, BaltimoreRavens and team
Recruits Database Gears and Accessories Realism Update by JD637

JD637 and BaltimoreRavens have been updating the gear and accessories graphics for a while now. Starting with V12, and with more improvements in V12.1, we've made it so the entire recruiting database can take advantage of some of the new graphic assets created for this mod, and to improve realism to match what players wear in real-life, and improved diversity/skin color.
More info here: https://www.ncaamod.com/news/next23v1/

Database improvements by Antdroid
There's been little tweaks and improvements to the game database to improve the league structure and stability and user interfaces.

Uniform Nameplate Fixes by Antdroid & JDHalfrack
Many teams that had missing names on the back of jerseys have had them made visible now with a special in-house tool created by JDHalfrack.

BCS Ranking Updates by JDHalfrack
This is a feature that mostly helps the future expansion, if we ever get there, but there is a slight tweak to the BCS calculation formula to take into account having 120 teams instead of the 119 default teams in this mod.

Team Logo Upgrades by Talon42
Team logos have had another pass through and updates where needed.

Helmet Updates by JD637
JD637 has updated the previous helmet appearances made by xflamesxofxhopex with some new helmet looks as well.

Menu, Dialog, and Disciplinary Caption Updates & Fixes by Antdroid
One of the cool features added in V12 was a fully-working and editable STRMDATA.DB file made possible by JDHalfrack. With that change, we are now able to update all in-game captions, headlines, dialogues, and other strings and features. This update improves upon the V12 changes and adds more dialog and captions variety to the game.

UI Updates and Fixes by Antdroid
There's a bunch of general UI changes to dynasty graphics and updates to sponsor logos and whatnot.

Updated Player Jersey number generation to be more realistic to 2020+ number rules by JDHalfrack
Player numbers now are generated to match new rules allowed by the NCAA, and now generated uniform numbers more closely align to realistic position/number combinations.

CPU Coach Career stat tracking by JDHalfrack & Antdroid
Previously, only User Coaches had stats tracked in a dynasty. With V12.1, we have enabled CPU coaches to have their records and stats tracked and easily viewed in Coach settings at any time.

Oregon "The Duck" Mascot addition by Antdroid and h4wduk3n
The Oregon Duck mascot is now an in-game playable mascot, and is also used for Oregon celebrations!

Hidden Conference Championship Bowl Games Mod by Antdroid & JDHalfrack
We have unlocked the ability to add more bowl games to the mod, however, this must be done by the user through DB Editor. With this, users can add two additional conference championship games or bowl games to the schedule. More info in the Wiki!

Touchbacks now are placed at the 25 Yard Line by JDHalfrack
This changes from placement from the old 20 yard line to the 25 yard line, which was made a new rule in 2012 by the NCAA.

40 Second Playclock by JDHalfrack
The 40 second playclock is now implemented as per NCAA Rule change in 2008. It was previously 25 seconds.

Removal of Stadium Cannon Celebrations by Antdroid
Yes.

KNOWN BUGS!

EMPTY STRING ERROR - Simming Games Bug

There is one known bug, which seems to be a memory related issue, and for majority of users, this will never be a problem. If you simulate a series of games in DYNASTY MODE, PLEASE exit the schedule page, and to the main Dynasty menu, before you simulate more games! If you do not, it may cause an error ("EMPTY STRING") and all the schedules will go to "BYE". The entire emulator will need to be rebooted and all progress lost.

This seems to be possibly due to overload of memory/resources, but we are still troubleshooting the root cause. In the mean time, just read the news and standings every time you simulate, and you should be fine.

Luckily, you can reload your save and it will recover fine.

Make memory card saves and save states often. :)

New Teams or renamed teams referred to as "AIR FORCE" by play-by-play commentary

This is an issue with how the game detects names. If the name doesn't match exactly how it's spelled, the team name defaults to Air Force. We are working to see if there's a fix for this.

IMPORTANT STUFF - INSTALLATION

FIRST OFF - If you have an older NEXT version, please remove old textures from the SLUS-21214 folder in PCSX2 folder.

SET UP YOUR PCSX2 EMULATOR AND GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS [recommend reading this if you have never installed NEXT before to get the best visual experience possible]:
https://wiki.ncaanext.com

Texture Pack:

  1. Download source-code.zip.
  2. Unzip package and move the TEXTURES & CHEATS folder to your PCSX2 directory.
  3. Make sure you have enabled "Load Textures" and turned off Mipmapping in the Graphics settings menu within the emulator!
  4. In emulator EMULATION settings, enable cheats. In Graphics settings, turn deinterlacing to OFF.

Game Patch to fix Jersey Number Conflicts, Recruit Names database, and more

  1. The Game Patches are located in the Game Patch folder. This is to be used only if you play the original game's league setup and rosters. This is otherwise already built-in, and slightly different, if you play the NEXT Modern Game (below).
  2. Follow the instructions in the README of this folder. Help is also available on the wiki page.

NCAA 06 NEXT Modern Game ISO Patch (i.e. Beta v3)

This mod brings realistic league setup and 2021 rosters to the game, along with a suite of new add-ons and fixes.

NOTE: You still need the texture pack, above, to use this mod correctly.

  1. Download "NCAA-NEXT-MODERN-BETA-ISO-V3.1.zip"
  2. Unzip package and two more zips will appear.
  3. Unzip the Textures pack and put the folder in your PCSX2\TEXTURES\SLUS-21214\Replacements folder, and then REMOVE the HOFSTRA and NORTHEASTERN folders from PCSX2\TEXTURES\SLUS-21214\Replacements\Teams\Colonial\
  4. Unzip the Installation-Files pack and follow the instructions in the readme and follow STEP 3 in our Wiki page: https://github.com/h4wduk3n/NCAA06Next/wiki/3.-Installation-of-the-NCAA-06-NEXT-Modern-'21-%5BISO-PATCH%5D
  5. Once you use IMGBURN, or equivalent ISO creation tool, load this new modded ISO up and enjoy!

Remember, any roster saves in your memory card WILL override the mod, so please do not use a memory card with a roster save on it!

HOT FIXES:

NCAA NEXT MODERN BETA TEXTURES PACK 3.1
This fixes rainbow colored shoes in the Uniform selection screen. If you have not already downloaded the mod, the updated ISO Patch files already include this. (it'll have a 3.1 texture pack zip in it). Just replace the Beta textures in Replacements with this new pack.

v10.1 is a small upgrade over v10 to fix a few number and turf issues, as well as upgrade several more teams to HD uniforms, update the ARIZONA WILDCATS uniforms to their newest sets, and add in end zone textures for all FCS schools.

If you have already installed the ISO Game Patch or BETA MOD, these do not need to be updated from v10. Textures are the only changes here.

For more info on v10 click here: https://github.com/h4wduk3n/NCAA06Next/releases/tag/V10

As usual, please remove your NCAA 06 SLUS-21214 TEXTURES folder and install a clean copy.

Windows PC EXE easy installer is included, however the Source-Code.zip file includes everything as well.

Files

  • The NCAA-06-NEXT-V10.exe file is an easy-installer for installing TEXTURE files. Please direct the installer to your PCSX2 1.7 directory and it will automatically create a textures folder and install the files. It will also include an uninstaller for future. You can choose to manually install via the Source-Code.zip file.

  • The NCAANext-MISC.zip file contains the memory card files, game patches, and cheats. These are optional installation files. The Game Patches does include updates to jersey number locations, updated recruiting names, models, and more.

  • NCAA 06 NEXT -Full ISO MOD BETA V2.zip contains files to create a brand new NCAA 06 NEXT ISO game that has a TON of updates and features including new teams, conference realignments, scheduling built-in, updated rosters, coaches, strategies, playbooks, and a lot more. No memory card needed for this update! Instructions are on the Wiki and included in the zip. If you are using this mod, please remove the HOFSTRA and NORTHEASTERN folders from Replacements, and carry over the textures pack from the package to the Replacements folder.

  • source-code.zip contains all data except for the Full ISO Mod Beta v2. This is used for manual installation, including for android, mac, linux, and xbox systems.

UPDATES:
For a new fix, to remove 7 and 8 inch tall recruits, there is a new update zips for the Game Patch and Beta ISO available now!

NCAA 06 NEXT V10

This is a huge update, with over 3200 files added or upgraded! Since some of the files are quite large we decided to break some of it up into smaller chunks, or you can download the entire source-code.zip as before.

If you are using this mod, please remove the HOFSTRA and NORTHEASTERN folders from Replacements.

For this, please use the ZIP file attached to the GitHub page and NOT the one in the Source Code. Since this new beta is too large, GitHub source wont take it! 😄

Finally, there's now installers for the mods in this package to help simplify some steps. You can also choose to download the Source Code zip package directly and do it the old fashion manual way! (Android and Xbox users need to do the source code route)

As usual, PLEASE REMOVE OLD TEXTURES FIRST! And also TURN OFF MIPMAPPING and TURN ON LOAD TEXTURES in PCSX2 1.7+. (Don't use PCSX2 v1.6. :)

KNOWN BUGS

Some of these have been fixed in the exe and BETA zip files, but may not be if you use Source Code.

  • If you see SEC Logo on BIG 12 teams in main menu, remove SEC Logo from Texas A&M's General Folder!
  • If you are not using the BETA ISO, and used SOURCE-CODE.ZIP, you can delete the zz-Beta folder in Replacements, if it exists!
  • If you use the BETA ISO, delete Northeastern and Hofstra folders from the Teams\Colonial\ folders
