I think it would be good to explore the possibility of using WebSockets (possibly using socket.io) to provide a live updating version of the hardware library during hackathons. This means that the reserved item counts are updated in real-time and the reservation list is constantly updated.

Would require a decent amount of rewriting of both the frontend and backend to support Sockets.
