....sounds a lot like what I suggested in #5116 (albeit I was suggesting to include it hash-computations rather than the folder-naming) :-)

@hvr both are worth doing. This one would help GHC developers, easier to purge whole store for specific GHC version (they are working on).

EDIT: and as everything is registered in single package-db it ought to be single GHC specific. Things could go terribly wrong when TH is invoked e.g (dynamic linking is mystery, the less moving parts, the better).
