The function isByteArrayPinned was added in #117, and it's only available for newer GHCs. I just noticed that in https://github.com/haskell/primitive/pull/64/files#diff-3775d36eee73f22308d8835dea028649R465, @winterland1989 had introduced a shim for making this work on older GHCs. This is probably worth adding.

And having a test for this would be helpful too.

Those old GHCs are now really old GHCs. Closing.
