for me it was trying to use an sdk version i didnt have. (probably because i dont have the latest xcode or something, seeing as it requires almost infinity free disk space to update)

in aseprite.sh:
POSTFIXPATH_SDKROOT=Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX11.3.sdk
making sure that points to something that exists (inside /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer) probably does it

or overriding it generally for cmake also seemed to work like this
export SDKROOT=/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/SDKs/MacOSX.sdk/

ymmv

ran into this again now on a fresh attempt and found my own comments 😆
firstly, python2 is dead and pythondoes not exist, but linking it to python3 works.
secondly i got the -lSystem missing again and today i "had to" modify the script and manually set
-DCMAKE_OSX_SYSROOT="/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/SDKs/MacOSX.sdk/"

because the automated concatenations did not get it right. and macos is messy. yuck. but it worked in the end.
macos 12.6.3 monterey, xcode 14
