SparkleShare Git big Files

Is Sparklesshare only for small files or also for big files. On your site I read any file size is supported

on this side (sorry only in German) (http://mamu.backmeister.name/praxis-tipps/sparkleshare-webinterface-fur-das-repository-und-ein-fazit/) I read SparkleShare or Git is not good for big files.

What are big files 1 GB ? What are the drawbacks if I use big files what happens?
Or is maybe a other project right for me if I have lots of files (most small ones) and also some big ones.
Should I try maybe OwnCloud or is Sparkleshare the right one?
