I'd like to propose some logo guidelines for the Helm Hub based on CNCF's learnings building the interactive landscape the last 3 years.

We've established these guidelines based on this more general advice on image formats.

  1. Is there interest in adding more formal guidance as either recommended best practices or a requirement?
  2. Could you please point me to where guidance is specified today, as I couldn't find it.

Hi Dan 👋 do you mean logo formats for each chart listed on the hub? If so this is taken from the icon key in each chart's Chart.yaml file. There may be some other place this is mentioned, but AFAIK it's only specified here: https://helm.sh/docs/charts/#the-chart-yaml-file

icon: A URL to an SVG or PNG image to be used as an icon (optional).

Here's the source: https://github.com/helm/helm/blob/master/docs/charts.md#the-chartyaml-file

If you meant something else please let me know 😄

Yes, I'm suggesting that Helm should disallow PNGs for logos, so as to ensure that posted logos are high-resolution.

For context, please see https://www.cncf.io/blog/2019/07/17/what-image-formats-should-you-be-using-in-2019/

Such a decision would need to be made by Helm maintainers. I have a goal of adding Operators as a new landscape to https://landscape.cncf.io which this change would facilitate. (Though I understand that Operators and charts are overlapping but not identical sets.)

Closing as the Helm Hub is deprecated. This is an issue for artifact hub now.
