Helsinki Scala Club

Join the chat at https://gitter.im/akauppi/HelsinkiScalaClub

This is the repo for the Helsinki Scala Club meetups.

We run the meetup off the GitHub, pretty literally.

Profile

Meetings are Thu 6-7:30 pm (often first Thursday of a month), in a restaurant or pub in central Helsinki area. The meeting will be strictly time boxed so show up in time. :)

Meetings can be sponsored by like-minded companies. If they are not, everyone pays their own drinks & snacks.

Open / approachable for both Scala beginners / advanced alike. General programming knowledge (of any language, not necessarily Scala) is expected.

A computer is always available for hands-on coding, which is preferred over slides. IntelliJ IDEA CE + git clone of this repo.

Each evening has a specific, pre-selected theme regarding Scala.

After meetups

It would be great if also the Meetup.com attendance information could be filled, after the events. This tells who was actually there and who were "no shows".

The tool is a bit hard to find. Go to particular event page and look for this:

Backlog

Ideas for upcoming events:

  • scala.js
    • coming to May or Jun 2016, by Dylan Drummond
  • using type system to your benefit
  • sbt basics / advanced
    • Asko could show how general purpose tasks are done in sbt (creating a file based on dependencies and running command line commands) AKa170416
