How to download and install whdload games #24
Comments
HstWB Installer and it's packages doesn't contain any games due to copyright issues. It only has game/demo launchers and screenshots. You need to download games from EAB file server. I have written a tutorial about how to run it here https://github.com/henrikstengaard/hstwb-installer/wiki/Prepare-self-install-tutorial#download-eab-whdload-packs. Then the downloaded EAB WHDLoad Packs needs to be prepared as described later in the turotial here https://github.com/henrikstengaard/hstwb-installer/wiki/Prepare-self-install-tutorial#run-build-eab-whdload-install. Note that “build eab whdload install” is the same as the newer “build install entries”. |
Hi I tried to follow the tutorial, but run into a few more questions :
Thanks for the awesome work on the installer and documentation! |
The documentation for downloading EAB WHDLoad games and demos needs updating and doesn't match the latest changes done to HstWB Installer and support user packages scripts. As you mention it needs to be moved to at better place where any user can find it and not have it hidden as part of one Wiki page. The downloaded games should fit on a 4GB image, if you select the one with 100MB DH0 partition. The prebuild self install image has a 300MB DH0: partition to fit the larger ClassicWB packages. This might require you build a customized image by running HstWB Installer setup in a Windows PC. Also to make downloaded games fit, use the top most option to select "Best version" set. This will attempt to select the best version, when multiple versions of the same game is available even with English language. You will also have to exclude CDTV games as they take quite some diskspace. |
I created a new image, when I start it up and select any game in the game selector it fails with missing file error. Looking into the dh1:WHDLoad\Games directory all sub directory contain only an igame.iff file. Is there a way to populate those directories with the games? I found that there is a download script here
https://github.com/henrikstengaard/amiga-whdload-game-scripts
that downloads all games from whdload, but it uses a different folder structure and the lha files are not unpacked
