This would be a feature request. I usually have hide join/parts ON, as it gets spammed a lot. However, it would be nice if there was a fast way to see, if the one I'm responding to is still in the channel or not. So it would be great, if, when someone leaves the channel, if they have written anything in it, than their name would be grayed out in the chat window, and colored back in if they rejoin. I'm talking about the chat window, not the user list. This should not be all that hard to do I think... The magic is around here I think: https://github.com/hexchat/hexchat/blob/master/src/common/text.c#L2015

I've thought of the feature before, I don't think it would be easy to implement though.

You can atleast mouse over their nick in the chat window, and if it gets an underline it means they're still there.

Tab complete is also a simple indication.

Did not know about those possibilities (they are not advertised much), I still think, this request is valid tho, you could give it a go, when you have nothing better to do... for fun. :)
