Details

  1. This word begins with an aspirate h.
  2. The "t" at the end of this word is only silent when followed by a consonant sound. Otherwise, it is sounded.
The correct transcription for this should be [ˈɥit].

My suggestion is:

  1. Assume that most words beginning in "h" are aspirated, so default "h" to have the phoneme [ˈ], and the reasoning should be "Aspirate "h" letters are transcribed as [ˈ]."
  2. Do a bit of research and find out which words begin with a mute h, such as the word "homme." For these "h" letters, the reasoning should be "This "h" letter is mute, so it is not transcribed."

This is important because the "h" plays a huge deciding factor for liaisons.
