Signal issues #60
Comments
Very strange. Does it usually work fine say on stock or other devices? What network is TracFone using? |
I don't remember how it worked on stock, and even if I did, it'd be invalid, because I'm a long ways away from the place I did the testing. It seems fine in my S7 though, but it's too early to say much about it. Edit: TracFone uses T-Mobile, I think they might also use Sprint, but that doesn't really matter since both my XZ1C and S7 are GSM only. |
So it only happens in this certain area and you aren't there anymore? |
I worded that wrong, I tested the stock 9 ROM probably months ago, and I'm not in that area anymore. However when I was in that area with this ROM, it seemed fine. I'm currently in a new area, and will be for around 2 months. I don't really feel like reflashing the old stock ROM, would rather OTA to the next release. Also, I don't think the S7 dropped signal once. |
I wouldn't either. I'll try to take a look into it if I can. S7 using tracphone too? |
I only have a TracFone SIM, so yeah. |
So the S7 sometimes has these issues, but they're nowhere as common or as long. It's currently running a LineageOS 15.1 build from early 2020. |
I'm going to Boom! Purple on my device due to Blue getting shutdown, so I'll see first hand if there are any T-Mobile related issues myself. |
Finally got my purple set up. I'm having issues too. Might be the firmware mix we used for our devices. I have a spare xz1c I will test on. |
Might be issue with apns: https://github.com/LineageOS/android_vendor_lineage/blob/lineage-18.1/prebuilt/common/etc/apns-conf.xml |
Also try the phone debugging menu (##4636##) and try playing with the perferred network type. I'm trying LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL) and LTE Only. Also would maybe try Ting since they have domestic roaming which is super helpful jumping onto ATT when I don't have any signal depending on location. LTE Discovery and Cell Mapper can help see if there are tower issues in your area too. I attached a ftf containing only the t-mobile oem and modem firmware for flashing. You can try those too. I don't think I saw much if any of a difference, but worth a try. |

I have the SIM in another phone and it works great. Maybe in the future I might try it with the XZ1C, but for now I don't want to break it when it's working. |
I don't wanna bother with a ftf, but I have applied the the new xml. So far so good, but it's too early to say anything. |
@asdf2345 That's excellent to hear! Let me know any issues you may run across. I am in the same boat right now with Ting mobile. My service isn't great, it always wants to switch over to Extended (E) coverage. Usually airplane mode or cutting the mobile power works (available from the ##4636## menu). I have alittle more success with LTE/CDMA/UTL selected instead of LTE/UTL myself (available under that menu I stated earlier which you punch into the cell phone dialer). I'll have to find time and get out a release eventually. I wanna find some time and get the OTA releases done so future updates are more fluid and easier for people. |
I have service from TracFone, and it can be weird at times, I can have two or more bars with service constantly dropping and coming back, but a reboot usually fixes it. However I have to reboot multiple times a day to have a usable signal.
It doesn't matter how much I full around with Preferred Network Mode, Roaming, VOLTE, Airplane Mode, etc, the signal just doesn't want to work sometimes unless I reboot, and sometimes that doesn't even fix it.
An hour ago, my phone was constantly finding and dropping 0 bars of only 3G, but after a reboot, I got and still have 2 bars 4G.
