I don't think the readme addressed this. I've been assuming that it's not useful to include apps which are available and fully enabled (not old or powered down due to sanboxing) in the app store.

As far as I can tell the MAS has absolutely no command line interface whatsoever.

Given this, I see homebrew-cask as providing a nice benefit for MAS apps that are also distributed directly via dmg/zip/etc. Users who don't want to go clicking around a GUI and want to consolidate the management of installed apps would I believe appreciate us including as many apps as possible.

Personally, I will always search for the non-MAS variant of a piece of software, and I regard the MAS install as a last resort. That's just me though; I'm a bit crotchety that way. :)

What are your thoughts?

I think almost the same as @phinze except I have to add: before homebrew-cask I used to have apps from both the App Store, Bodega (alternative app store, for, e.g. VLC), and manually-downloaded stuff. Now, I've replaced everything I can to the homebrew-cask version because I know my life will be damn easier whenever brew cask outdated and brew cask upgrade land :)
