To rename a file or folder in Krusader (kde-file-manager) I press F9 as usual and with vertex-dark I get 2 layers of the text that I want rename, one is marked. See first attached image.
When I want to rename only a part of it, I have to press right arrow key first to hold it, as it is usual in similar situations. But especially then all is UNREADABLE because of the 2 layers.
With another ubuntu theme (ambiance f.e.) all is working fine, without a second layer.

Do you have the gnome-themes-standard package installed?

Ok, it's a bug in the gtk2 theme. The default theme (Adwaita) has the same bug. I will try to find a way to fix this.

Thank You! By the way: Do You like to receive a donation as a little
"Thanks"? I don't see a link for donations.

Hi, I was just about to report this bug. I am also affected. I do not have this issue in other themes.

Meanwhile I found out that in krusader root the bug isn't there. See screenshot. But the theme of it differs to the theme of the normal version...

I also encounter the same problem in with the theme Mint Y (https://github.com/linuxmint/mint-y-theme).
However, it doesn't appear with Mint X or other XFCE themes.

I have the same issue on different computers. I'm using the latest Manjaro KDE and yet the renaming layer is always visible, no matter which desktop theme I use.
Since renaming files/folders is a common action, this is a very annoying bug and because of that I especially use Dolphin for that because Krusader can't get it right.

And as I see this issue is the same bug:
linuxmint/mint-y-theme#90

So it happens not only on Gtk DEs but also on Plasma or LXQt. If that's relevant, I'm using Kvantum.

I have the same bug with Linux Mint 20 :(
This bug is still not solved.

After googling a little bit more, I have found a solution:

In Linux Mint, if you use Mint-X style (especially for Button) then this issue disappears.

Before I used somehow Mint-Y style, and I had the same issue. To change the style solved the issue for me.

I changed Plasma desktop theme and Kvantum theme, and it also solved the issue for me.

Found a workaround. I'm using theme Mint-Y-Dark. Krusader uses Qt with gtk2 theme.

I've modified the file /usr/share/themes/Mint-Y-Dark/gtk-2.0/main.rc:

  1. found 'style "entry"'
  2. commented out 'xthickness' and 'ythickness'
  3. in it's 'engine "pixmap"' section commented out both image sections with function = FLAT_BOX

Now it works well with default background (visible box).
Hope this helps someone.

This is perfect! I use a combination of Mint-Y and Mint-Y-Dark, so I made these changes to both theme files (the main.rc ones, as referenced above). Worked like charm!

One quick note: in order for the changes to take effect, I did have to reboot. Maybe there's a quicker / better way (sourcing some kind of file or something...?), but the reboot did the job.

Thanks, @mouseman225!
