Currently, access to the Pi via SSH or something similar is necessary. But to keep things simple, one of the following will have to be implemented.

Get config from a usb drive that is plugged in (have a fixed structure that you expect, something like /numbers/config.json and /numbers/0.wav) - this is my current favorite

Others:

Web Interface (Like Volumio, requires specific network config)
GUI (requires monitor, keyboard, mouse)
