The man pages are currently not installed when i3 is compiled and installed from source via make install. There also doesn't seem to be a target for it – man pages have to be manually copied over in order to work.

Would it be feasible to have this be part of the install step or at least have a target that installs them?

I don’t see a link to logs.i3wm.org. Did you follow http://i3wm.org/docs/debugging.html? (In case you actually provided a link to a logfile, please ignore me.)

I don’t see a version number. Could you please copy & paste the output of i3 --version into this issue?

That’s because the path to install them to varies from distribution to distribution.

We don’t consider make install to be a good way to install i3. You should always use the distribution’s packages.

Well, the AUR package only calls make install and copies the man files manually. I didn't know about the differing folder structure. Is it common for packages to do this on a per distribution basis? I can't believe there's no standard or environment variable of some sort :)

Either way, it makes a lot of sense to not touch this. It'll have to stay that way I guess :)
