Output of i3 --moreversion 2>&- || i3 --version:

Binary i3 version: 4.12 (2016-03-06, branch "4.12") © 2009 Michael Stapelberg and contributors
Running i3 version: 4.12 (2016-03-06, branch "4.12") (pid 1029)
Loaded i3 config: /home/andreas/.config/i3/config (Last modified: Sun 11 Sep 2016 06:47:49 PM CEST, 300 seconds ago)

The i3 binary you just called: /usr/bin/i3
The i3 binary you are running: i3

What I did:

Start programs with tray icons, press Meta+R to refresh

What I saw:

Tray icons that have transparent backgrounds, the background is not properly redrawn after placing the icons. This is causing varying degrees of old junk behind the icons.

Here you can clearly see some text hidden behind the Dropbox icon and a Telegram icon hidden behind the ownCloud icon.

screenshot from 2016-09-08 19-33-51

What I expected instead:

Black (or whatever background color set in config) background only.

I don’t see a link to logs.i3wm.org. Did you follow http://i3wm.org/docs/debugging.html? (In case you actually provided a link to a logfile, please ignore me.)

This is a constraint of the tray specification which other window managers suffer from as well. The correct fix is to move to the newer indicator specification for which we have an open ticket. i3 doesn't support transparency, hence closing this.

Ok.

Which issue number is that ticket?
