PixieDust 1.0.8: Using a Python 3.x kernel in DSX, the pixiedust google maps renderer fails with a bytes-like object is required, not 'str'. The problemn is not observed if Python 2.x is used.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

Simple data frame containing 2 columns: STATE and count, e.g. ("FL",1)

display(df)

  • Choose Map as the chart type.
  • Put STATE into the Keys box.
  • Put count in the Values box.
  • Set Aggregation to COUNT.
  • Click OK.
  • From the Renderer list, choose google.
  • From the Display Mode list, choose region.
  • From the Region list, choose US.
