Many user without twitter account would want to create an account at Vimgolf.

Problem is, this makes the registration process a heck of a lot more annoying: need to get the user to pick a username, etc.

I realize this is not "best", but I'm not sure that the extra complexity warrants the extra effort.

How about Google accounts, MSN Passport or OpenID? People behind the Great Fire Wall on China don't have access to twitter... and that's a lot of people there :)

I'm no web-dev so I'm just throwing names up there, don't know how difficult that is.
