I don't know how it happens, but sometimes the search filter data source changes from the field name to fieldname.keyword, which causes the filter to stop working. Futhermore, every time you edit the filter it appends .keyword again and again. You have to select the field name from the drop down list and save it again to fix it.

I just experienced this again. I didn't move any filters. I only opened and closed them. Ironically, I was checking to see if the filters were OK. When I went back to the Explorer UI all of the filters that I had opened were no longer working. I went back into the admin interface and found that they had become type.keyword, authors.keyword, etc...
This bug is actually really annoying and happens all the time, randomly breaking the Explorer filters. Users keep having issues with filters and when I look it is always due to this .keyword bug. Re-labeling this as high priority!
