The underlying image magick library appears to have some cases where it reads from uninitialized memory:

Because of this, sometimes the image generation shows a corrupted result, for example this should be a standard gradient image.

This was a bug in the underlying ImageMagick library which has been fixed http://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25554&p=113970#p113970
