Viudas de sangre (Blood Widows) is a novel by the Uruguayan writer Daniel ChavarrÃa, published in 2004 by Editorial Letras Cubanas. The novel is set in Cuba in the 1920s, during the era of US intervention and the rise of the sugar industry. The plot revolves around a series of scams, seductions and murders orchestrated by a group of women who prey on wealthy foreigners.

The novel has been praised for its audacious structure, its eroticism and its original situations. It combines elements of historical fiction, crime fiction, romance and satire. The novel is divided into four parts, each one narrated by a different character. The first part is told by �ngel Blanco, a young Cuban journalist who works for a pro-American newspaper. He is hired by a mysterious woman named Olga to investigate the death of her husband, a rich American businessman who was killed by a crocodile in the Zapata Swamp. �ngel soon discovers that Olga is not who she claims to be, and that she is involved in a complex scheme to defraud and murder wealthy foreigners.

The second part is narrated by Gretta, a German woman who is part of Olga's gang. She reveals how she met Olga and the other women in Europe, and how they came to Cuba with the help of a Russian prince named Piotr. She also explains how they seduce and marry their victims, and how they use a secret poison to make them sick and weak. She also confesses her love for �ngel, whom she tries to save from Olga's wrath.
The third part is told by Piotr, the prince who acts as the mastermind of the operation. He recounts his past as a revolutionary in Russia, and how he escaped from the Bolsheviks with a fortune in jewels. He also describes his fascination with Cuba and its culture, and his role as the protector and adviser of the women. He also reveals his plans to overthrow the Cuban government and establish a socialist republic.
The fourth and final part is narrated by Olga herself, who reveals her true identity and motives. She tells her story from her childhood in Russia, where she witnessed the horrors of war and famine. She also explains how she became a spy for the British intelligence, and how she used her skills and charms to infiltrate and manipulate various political and social circles.
