There are a few ways identifications can be created using inactive taxon concepts, including

  1. Vision suggestions (the model is based on a static list of taxon IDs, any of which could become de-activated before the next model comes out)
  2. Cached taxa in the iPhone app

While dealing with this for splits is possibly tricky, we can definitely create new identifications with the active synonyms of taxa de-activated by swaps and merges.

Pretty sure 1 is resolved now right?

Looks like if you enter it as placeholder text on iOS, Android, or through the browser uploader, it can map to an inactive taxon.

A link to this report on the forum (why I'm looking at this--closing out old bug reports).

Regarding point 1, there is at least some delay on the CV still because I made a taxon inactive via a swap August 3, 2020 and it was still coming up in the CV a month later:

Running the CV on that same image now (Dec 2020) gives the new taxon for Argynnis instead.
