"Taxa curated" number on /people is inconsistent

User thomaseverest notes that his "taxa curated" number jumps around quite a bit. I've been checking it at around the same time every morning (CA time) and here's what I've seen:

I haven't been tracking other users, but it seems that at least in this case there are some weird inconsistencies.
