For the record, I am generally open to any enhancements as long as it doesn't break existing users... But that's always easy to solve, worst case scenario you create a new function signature.

inotify-tools has zero funding, it relies heavily on contributions.

Unfortunately people open more issues as regards feature requests then pull requests. A hard problem to solve.
