Microcode version 20201110 - Hangs on bios selection using Linux mint

Hi -
I’m using an intel nuc 9 with an 8 core 9980HK processor and integrated intel graphics, 32gb RAM. System had been working fine with previous microcode version, using Linux mint 20 kernel version 5.8.0.25. Today the system was updated to the latest microcode version (20201110), and proceeded to hang at boot time on the bios selection screen.
Had to revert to a 5.4 kernel and remove the microcode for the system to boot up again in 5.8

What is meant by "bios selection screen"? Do you mean hangs during (warm) reboot on POST?
