Character ranges

It appears from the grammar that in a character range, no space is allowed before the hyphen:

range: from, "-", S, to.
@from: character.
  @to: character.

So ["A"-"Z"] is a range, but ["A" - "Z"] is not?

Is that intentional, or am I misunderstanding something?
