By implementing a video blocker feature it should be possible to blacklist channels, videos in specific languages, unpopular videos, high dislikes videos. And more, I guess.

This functionality is implemented in SkyTube app:

this sounds useful but i think it is more helpful to improve subscriptions, suggestions, feeds and organising. filtering feels a bit like cleaning a landfill with a trash picker.

for example i would like to have a suggestion feed that consists of the videos that are suggested in any video of any of the channels i have subscribed to sorted by how often they appear in the suggestions.

Just to add another use-case similar to #2979 I too am looking for a kid-friendly youtube experience. In my case, I want to have an instance that can only access videos from subscribed channels. I think it's possible to get very close with existing config.yml:

  • feed_menu: ["Subscriptions", "Playlists"] (remove "Popular", "Trending")
  • default_home: Subscriptions
  • related_videos: false

This gets close, but still missing:

The goal here is not a perfect walled garden (since accessing unfiltered youtube is so easy in general), but rather a "safe" place for especially younger kids to enjoy videos without ending up in any rabbit holes.
