Currently the program asks for administrative privileges immediately when starting it.
It would be cool if the program could also have a mode where it just cleans the users own start menu instead of also including the system-wide one. This would enable people to use the program on computers where they don't have admin privileges.
While implementing this the program could also be modified to only ask for admin privileges ones the cleaning starts.
From a technical perspective this doesn't seem easy because the current UAC prompt gets triggered by
pyinstaller
instead of by the program itself. This was really easy to set up because it is just a command line flag ofpyinstaller
. Triggering it from the program itself should be doable usingpywin32
which is already a dependency of the program. But the documentation for doing so seems a bit complicated to me. Sincepywin32
is just a wrapper around the native Windows APIs and they are written primarily forC++
it isn't clear to me how to request administrative privileges in Python.Would this feature be interesting to anyone?
