Solar eclipses happen when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, either partially or entirely blocking the sun's light. Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth passes between the sun and the moon, casting its shadow on the moon. During a total lunar eclipse, the moon can appear reddish, earning it the nickname "blood moon." Eclipses offer opportunities for scientific study and captivate skywatchers worldwide with their awe-inspiring displays. Solar and lunar eclipses manifest solely within a brief timeframe designated as an eclipse season. Each eclipse season possesses its own unique characteristics, with certain seasons standing out as particularly remarkable.

<strong>1900:</strong> The first eclipse of the 20th century was in 1900, according to the parks service. The path of totality of that eclipse brought it over Wadesboro, North Carolina.
</li>
<li>
<strong>1918:</strong> In June 1918, a total solar eclipse was visible from Washington to Florida, according to the parks service. It was the last time a total solar eclipse would be visible across the entire continent for nearly 100 years.
</li>
<li>
<strong>1925:</strong> This was followed by another total solar eclipse in January 1925, which was visible from Minnesota through New England, according to NASA.
</li>
<li>
<strong>1932:</strong> In August 1932, another total solar eclipse was visible in North America. The path of totality for this eclipse was mostly in Canada, according to NASA, but was visible in northern New England including parts of Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
</li>
<li>
<strong>1963:</strong> The next total solar eclipse in the U.S. wasn't until July 1963. This eclipse was visible in Alaska and parts of northern New England, according to NASA.
</li>
<li>
<strong>1970:</strong> In March 1970, another total solar eclipse was visible from the coast of the Southwest United States.

In the 21st century there has been 2 eclipses, 2017 and just recently, March 8th 2024!

<p>A solar eclipse viewing device, such as a pinhole projector, is a safe and easy way to observe a solar eclipse. Follow these steps to create your own:</p>
<ol>
<li>Find a cardboard box or make one from a cereal box.</li>
<li>Cut a small square hole (about 2 cm by 2 cm) in one side of the box.</li>
<li>Cover the square hole with aluminum foil and secure it with tape.</li>
<li>Using a pin, poke a small hole in the center of the aluminum foil.</li>
<li>Stand with your back to the sun and hold the box so that sunlight shines through the pinhole and onto a blank piece of paper placed inside the box.</li>
<li>Adjust the distance between the pinhole and the paper until you see a clear image of the sun projected onto the paper.</li>
<li>Enjoy observing the solar eclipse safely!</li>
</ol>
<p>Remember, never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, as it can cause serious damage to your eyes.</p>
