I was having trouble with changing my home page featured image on theme.yml. I am trying to use a jpg file on my mac, but it doesn't seem to recognize it. Any suggestions?

You write that you are trying to use a jpg file on my mac. The CollectionBuilder site is hosted on GitHub, so you will need to add the image to your GitHub repository (or link to an image on another server). GitHub cannot access a file on your local mac machine.

For Windows users installing Tesseract, after you run the installer linked here, you need to do one extra step to add the path for Tesseract to the environment variables on your computer. This article explains how to do it, but here is a quick video as well.

This may have been covered already, but I'm a little confused about the Collection Builder Object ID for the metadata assignment. Where can you find the Object ID for an object in Collection Builder? Is this an identifier you create yourself or is it automatically assigned when you upload the object? What are some examples of an Object ID?

The object ID is something you assign yourself in your metadata. Details are described here: https://collectionbuilder.github.io/cb-docs/docs/metadata/gh_metadata/#objectid. While not required, for some obscure reasons I can explain in class, I recommend starting your Object ID with one or more alphabetic characters (a-z, A-Z). For instance, for my concert ticket example, my Object IDs are tix001, tix002, tix003, etc. You may view my full metadata file here: https://github.com/jawalsh/rock-show/blob/main/_data/metadata.csv.

Hi, I'm having so much trouble getting my objects to actually show up on my site. I've uploaded my object folder and everything is named according to the conventions and I don't think any of my file sizes are too big, I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here! Any tips or thoughts would be appreciated :)

Could you reply to this with a screenshot of the CSV file that has your metadata? Particularly your column for "format"

I think your objects are not showing up because your jpg files are in a subfolder WarehouseObject, and they should just be in the objects folder, unless you've configured CollectionBuilder to look in objects\WarehouseObject.

It might be easier to troubleshoot this in class on Friday, but I thought I'd ask here just in case. I'm currently using the jumbotron feature on my exhibit page, and it says in the jumbotron instructions on one of the help pages that you can change the title and tagline on it for a specific page by adding title and text in the code. I feel like I've done it the way I'm supposed to, and the tagline did change, but I can't get the title to change and I don't know why. This is what the code looks like for the jumbotron feature on that page:

Good question. You aren't doing anything wrong. It appears the documentation is inaccurate. If you change title="Current Exhibit" to heading="Current Exhibit", it should work. In class on Friday I will demonstrate how I figured this out.

I am having trouble with getting my images to show up on my exhibits/about pages. The images appear in the preview, but not on the actual site. Is this normal?

I was also having trouble with two of my images not appearing in my browse section. Any thoughts on why some appear and others don't?

In your metadata you have the filename incorrectly as under_the_monkey_pod_tree_lyrics.jpeg, but the actual file is named under_the_monkey_pod_tree_lyrics.jpg (.jpg not jpeg). So you need to edit the filename or the metadata so that they match.

I have a few issues with my collection. Titles for all my objects do not show up either on their object page or the data page. Each object will load in a new tab using the download object button but will not show up on the collection builder page. Some of my subject buttons show up as buttons but then don't show any items when you click the tag. Finally, trying to enter multiple entries for one metadata field treats it as one long entry with commas rather than separate entries.

Try replacing your metadata file with this one (rename it metadata.csv). I'm wondering if the fact that you have single quotes in your title field is messing with it. I opened your CSV file in LibreOffice on my computer, and it automatically puts quotes around every field.

That seemed to do the trick, although some of my images aren't showing now as objects. Last issue for tonight I promise, if anyone is still up. I can't seem to get franchise to show up as a field for objects or subjects, even when editing the config-metadatacsv

Looks like the metadata cvs you sent me has some of the information scrambled weird. I might try to move over the title column into my original metadata folder to see if that helps

Yep, just saw that! You may want to add double quotes around franchise as well (I see apostrophes in there) and any other field with apostrophes in it.

I am struggling with getting images to appear in my about and exhibit pages. I uploaded my external images onto to the front page of Github (so they're not in blue folders) and referenced them in my markdown sheet using this format. They appear when I open the md files in my Github pages folder, but not on my actual site. Is this normal or am I formatting something wrong? Let me know if you need anymore information.

You need to remove the "/" from your file paths. So, ![atm](atm.jpg) should work.

Hi all!

I know this is a bit last minute, but I keep updating my config-metadata.csv and some changes show up, while others will not. I'm trying to include my rights and my relation fields, but am having no luck getting them to appear on my page. Any suggestions?

The name of your rights field is just "rights", so in config-metadata, you need rights,Rights,, in line 11
I'm not sure what's wrong with relation, but try an extra comma at the end of line 8. I don't know if that will sort it out, but it should make it show up as a nicely formatted table.

You have an extra space after "relation" in your btownmetadata.csv! Just remove that space, and I think it'll work (I checked the raw file of your CSV, and you can see the extra space there)

Hi y'all, quick question: I've been trying to update my item.html page to display a carousel of images, instead of just one image per object, but I don't see how to redirect the selection of images to the specific ones in my objects folder instead of the random ones.

From what I can understand, in the carousel page, I need to change the variable carouselItems to select incrementally like so:

Hi Seth, I'm not sure you'll be able to do that since each item page is generated based on object ids. If it were me, I would see if you can select all objects beginning with the same string in the object id (e.g., ripamonte). I'm not sure how you'd code that though!
