Getting Started

πŸ“‹ Business Fundamentals

Decide on a business entity structure.

For example, you could choose a sole proprietorship, LLC, partnership and so on.

Register your business with the Georgia Secretary of State

This costs $100 and takes 7-10 business days to process. Must be renewed annually.

Apply for an Employee Identification Number (EIN)

This can be performed online through the IRS . In total it takes about 5 minutes. You will need this for tax purposes and opening a business checking account.

Open a Business Checking Account

There are a wide range of business checking accounts available. Look for one with no fees.

Salon Management

You are now your own salon so you must manage things such as client formulas, appointments, payments. Salon management software such as DaySmart Salon is recommended to make salon management tasks such as these seamless.

  • Saloncentric - Create an account at SalonCentric. You will need this to order supplies.
  • GA Professional Licensing πŸ‘ - You will need a copy of your cosmetology license for various steps throughout this process, including the license number and expiration date. You can find it here.

Social Media & Online Presence

It goes without saying you need to have a social media and online presence. You have to build your brand! 😎 Many of these are optional but can help take your stylist brand to the next level.
