Work around is to log into SFDC and open up a Contact record.

ab1fe29 
… access to recent items. Also, pulled basic describe members into DescribeSObjectBasic and have describeGlobal() and discoverSObject() correctly return this class instead of DescribeSObject with missing field and childEntity info, as the API only returns the full DescribeSObject with /services/data/<version>/<type>/describe.
