I have no idea what causes this, but my UDB keeps crashing for no real reason. I dunno exactly when it happens but this time it happened when i was trying to modify linedefs

What version are you using? There's been some safeguards added to the code so that shouldn't happen anymore.

i think i'm using the latest version but frankly, i have no idea. is there a way to update it without reinstalling?

"Latest version" isn't a version number. Help -> Check for updates.
