Scenario:

  • athlete lifts below knee
  • puts bar down
  • timekeeper restarts time (or maybe not)
  • leaves platform
  • 2 refs signal red by mistake -- this stops clock
  • down shown
  • coach sends athlete back
  • timekeeper cannot restart clock because down signal has been shown

Observations

  • timekeeper failing to stop clock (distracted) happens frequently
  • stopping clock on down is therefore still a meaningful choice
  • not being able to restart is an issue
  • a notification to timekeeper/announce/jury that clock was running and the interrupted due to down would be useful
