Life expectancy over time, by continent

I looked at life expectancy change over the past 50 years for each country, grouped by continent.

THIS IS AWESOME. You pointed out that you were going to add a legend, and I think that would help understand it better. I liked the color choice and would agree with Olaya that it would look better in a larger scale. LOVE IT!

This looks beautiful :) I would be curious who these outliers are, in case you'd like to label/highlight some countries by annotation. I guess for example that the line going down bwtn 1990 and 2000 is Rwanda, but I have no idea what the one at 1980 is -- and would love to know!

Definitely investigate those outliers! As an idea you could also fade all of the colors on certain continents and highlight an interesting outlier in the full-brightness version of the color - like one with a lot of up and down change or one that's exceptionally high or low compared to its neighbors.

I added a key, some annotations, and changed the scope. I played with opacity and stroke width, but unfortunately could not isolate a single line from the rest of its continent-mates. I'll have to dig deeper in Illustrator tools to see if that's possible.

Would you mind pasting in the code you used to plot? I'll be able to tell you how to only color one line or continent in matplotlib which you can then use to only change that selection in Illustrator.

You can also extend your artboard using the artboard tool so you don't have to wedge your title in a corner and can make it a bit bigger and higher in the visual hierarchy 📈

Oh, just noticed the annotations! I would break them out as separate text and then draw lines lines to the data points themselves, just to pull them out of the flow and make them pop a bit more.
