Frozen Four Stats.xlsx

Link to Pitch: https://github.com/jsoma/playfair-projects/issues/17 #17

I manually compiled the 2015-16 season stats from each team into an excel file which is my entire data set. For the most part I have cleaned all of the data (with a few exceptions :) ). Then, I split the data up into four different data frames for each time where I then ran statistical analyses and selected individual stats to examine (regarding each teams' top line). I'm working on creating my first graph using this data set that I created. My findings so far have suggested that North Dakota's top line generated the most points (including goals and assists) with Denver as a close second. North Dakota won this years National Championship after advancing 4-2 over DU in the Frozen Four. Quinnipiac's top line comes in third with points, the team finished second after losing to North Dakota in the National Championship. Boston College's top line finished last in points and the team lost to Quinnipiac in the Frozen Four. Points are just one of many stats to analyze between the four teams, especially when considering that only one out of the three players from the top line will be returning for the upcoming 2016-17 season for BOTH Denver and North Dakota (The other players signed entry-level contracts with the NHL).

Thanks for explaining this to us! It'd be interesting to shade the points scored by the people on the top line that are going to new teams.

Also, just on a superficial note, I think that typing out the title could work better since the screen shot could get pixelated.

I like your logo and color usage -- coming from a total hockey ignoramus, it might be helpful to include some information about how many games the points are coming from. Is this just from the 2016 season? Etc.

I would like to see two more graphs, one that has the number of assists per player and one that has the number of points per player, so that it is clearer that the combined points are the number of points the line has scored together.

Hi there, I'm the Playfair Bot! Would you mind posting the appropriate checklist in the main body of your issue? You might have posted it as the first comment, but it turns out it works way better in the actual body of the issue - just go up to the veeery top right and click the pencil icon to edit. You'll probably want to edit the comment to copy the checklist, then edit the original issue to paste it in. Thanks! 🙏

Hi there, I'm the Playfair Bot! Thanks for posting your story issue, but would you mind adding editing the original issue to add the first draft of your image? You have my sincere apologies, but it's easier for dumb robots like me when the comments are only used for updates. Thanks! 🙏

Hi there, I'm the Playfair Bot! Would you mind linking to your pitch issue by using the '#1' method (but with your actual pitch issue number)? It'll hopefully help us keep things neat and organized. Thanks a zillion! 🙏

Here are the links to the two visuals I created for Projects 2 and 3:

With both graphs I would eventually like to add some interactive tools that would allow the user to scroll over to see which player within each top line had a specific portion of shots, points, blanks, pp, fouls, etc. out of the combined top lines' stats that are depicted.

Story issue checklist

Would you mind exporting your images as PNGs to paste in here? Makes it a bit easier to work through, thanks!
