I appreciate the very well done dark themes. My preference is acutally for black text on sepia. This is a common theme offered on e-readers and in browser reading modes. I hope that it would be somewhat simple to adapt a sepia theme as a compromise between light and dark themes.

Hey @jhilto new themes can be provided by external plugins (see some examples). You can get started with your own theme using the project template.

How does this work in Jupyterlite?

Prebuilt JupyterLab extensions such as themes also work in JupyterLite. See the demo repo as an example: https://github.com/jupyterlite/demo, where theme-darcula is defined here:

https://github.com/jupyterlite/demo/blob/b4a67fa1371450ab594907a80c48ef4fd4aec6a9/requirements.txt#L20

There is also some documentation about adding extensions available here: https://jupyterlite.readthedocs.io/en/latest/configuring.html#adding-extensions
