Currently, the only way to search private messages is to not specify a group to search (as I understand it). Would be useful to add a flag, like -u, to specify the name of a user whose dms can be searched.

-u currently filters messages from only a specific user. I think what you want is -g, which filters for group (this is currently overloaded to also mean direct messages).

I agree that direct messages should be separated from groups in the future, I'd take a PR to that effect.

Yea I was suggesting a way to differentiate between groups and direct messages though I had forgotten all the details from the talk yesterday. Wasn't sure how I would word a PR for it, I guess I'll just try to put something together.
