Hi I am a graphic designer and I make free contributions of logo design and image to open source app, I would like to contribute in your app with a striking logo design. If you are interested let me know your concerns. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your offer. From my point of view the logo for togozip is fine. But my apps https://github.com/k3b/intent-intercept/ and https://github.com/k3b/ContentProviderHelper/ should get a new icon

Hi, well, I'll be opening an issue in each of them so you can comment on how you would like to see the icon of your apps

Hey! :) To be clear, I think ToGoZip is a great app and I genuinely like using it - but the artwork really needs an update.
This is how the app shows in F-Droid:

2020-10-24-161208

There are stray pixels and lines in the logo and a weird white border around it, the F-Droid logo in the banner is cut off and so is the gallery, the camera logo is not centered, the icons all have extremely different resolutions, you can clearly see where the ToGoZip-Logo has been pasted in, most likely from a JPEG judging by the artifacts around it, it is vertically stretched and in general everything is extremely pixelated.

I like the concept of the pressed suitcase as a logo and the banner more or less gives a complete overview about what the app does and how to use it, but I fear the artwork might deter people from trying it out.

I think the logo and banner should be redone, preferably as a vector graphic, with the above mentioned things corrected. I'd be willing to do it myself if you give me the go-ahead.

Sorry for late replay.

If you want to redo the artwork please go ahead.

@gcarlosr @ Jeinzi I have granted you write access to the repository.

Requirements

  • produced artwork must be free usable (cc)
  • icons must be made compatible with android-2.0 (api 7)
  • i prefer small artwork size in bytes
** the app with all artwork and translations currently is less than 160 kb
    ** artwork is located in
    *** src/main/res/drawable(-xxx)
    *** fastlane/metadata/android/en-US/images

This is what I've come up with so far. I tried redoing the logo with the suitcase and the press first, but it always looked too wild to me. I like this minimalistic version, but I'd like to hear your opinion on it before I push anything.
logo

And that would look as follows in the F-Droid-Banner:
banner

As to your requirements:

  • License: As you wish, CC is fine as is the GPL
  • File size: The simplistic logo would be roughly halve as big as the current one
  • Compatibility with Android 2.0: How do I do this? Do you have a link with more information?

new logo and graphics looks great on my pc monitor.

I am not shure how the icon will look like on an low-res-android device with a a dark background. can you see more than a white rectangle in a black circle if you have only 32 x 32 pixel symbol on the android-start-screen?

The file manager icon (blue background whith white folder symbol) has no room for details, too. so i assume that the word "zip" will not be readable.

if you think the icon is ok in 32x32 than i will take it

It is barely readable with 32x32 resolution, so I think it would be okay. But does ToGoZip even support such low resolutions? The minimum I found in the mdpi folder is 48x48.

my android-2.2 shows icons as 32x32 pix scaling down bigger icons if there is no 32x32.

It is barely readable with 32x32 resolution

great :-) Then i accept you changes. feel free to replace icons and screenshot and start a new f-droid release.

if you are not shure how to do it i can do it.

Thanks for spending time and contributing.

@Jeinzi

Hello julian.

on the start screen of my android-10 the logo looks fine.

In the apps about-box and the the share menu the icon looks like this.

Capture+_2021-11-02-17-54-33
Capture+_2021-11-02-17-57-49

If this looks ok for you i will keep the logo. What do you think?

Other than the missing bottom margin on the first image, the logo looks good to me in that context :)
