gen is a directory that is created automatically.

bin is a directory for generated binaries.

.settings is an eclipse specific folder.

All three aren't part of the source, they shouldn't be in this repo.

Yes, the repo needs a lot of clean up. When I was checking things in, I decided to just do a mass add, and worry about what was really necessary later. I'll make that one of the priorities in February :)
