URLs in tag format affecting syntax

I was annotating an article that enclosed their urls in <> for some reason. For example like <google.com> instead of (google.com) and I think since this is the same tag for XML, it is completely invisible to the auto pdf reader. Like escape character problem I think. The text is clickable, but the white box will not include the url /and or be empty.
