Hey, I am having an error with installing Dokan. I tried to install dokan seperately, ran as admin, redownloaded both keybase and dokan, tried to install KBFS. Didn't work. I got a permission denied, checked the path and it is fine.

  • If the Keybase installer is run as administrator, it will not work until reboot (or Keybase processes are all manually stopped and restarted). We may change the installer to fail in this case to prevent confusion.
  • The installer intentionally fails if a previous Dokan is found. KBFS requires Dokan 1.X. You may be able to replace Dokan using the following steps:
  1. Install Keybase/KBFS
  2. Uninstall Dokan using the control panel (reboot likely required)
  3. Install some other Dokan 1.X version

I ran the keybase windows file as from https://keybase.io/docs/the_app/install_windows
It didnt work.
I installed dokan seperately, it still didnt work.
Trying to install keybase again.

Separate dokan installations will probably mess things up, but @zanderz knows the installer best.

What exactly went wrong when you say the windows installer "didn't work"?
The linked log shows the Dokan part failing, which is likely because it found a previous Dokan version already. Dokan installer log files would say (%temp%\dokan*.log).

hmm, just checked my control panel and I found keybase was installed twice. i tried uninstalling both and it said Permission Denied.

Any chance you launched the Keybase installer with elevated permissions? That might prevent uninstalling without elevation.

The pastebin log seems to show that the uninstaller could not write its progress to the install DB or registry, which makes it seem like it must have been run under an account without permission to do so. I have never seen that and don't know how it could have happened. Is it possible the earlier installers were run under a different account? Does your account not have admin privileges on that machine?

No, my account is the owner account. Weird, I tried on a different accout (with admin permissions) and it still didnt work. I also tried right clicking and using "Run as Admin". Didn't really make a difference. @zanderz
