Versions

  • Python: 3.10
  • OS: macOS 12.6
  • Buildozer: 1.4.0

Description

Trying to build an android app from a single kivy main.py file. When running buildozer -v android debug I get the following error:

# This buildozer version requires a python-for-android version with AAB (Android App Bundle) support. Please update your pinned version accordingly.

I've tried the change of p4a.branch = develop which is suggested elsewhere and deleted the .buildozer directory, but still get the same error.

Hi @djaychela !

That looks like a duplicate of #1493 (fixed via #1494)

PS: We'll likely have a new buildozer release in a week, but meanwhile you can install it via the latest master branch.

Hi. I've just tried to install buildozer from github, using

python -m pip install git+https://github.com/kivy/buildozer and have 1.4.1.dev0 installed as a result.

However, I'm still seeing the same error, although it now says

[WARNING]: Please report any issues to the python-for-android issue tracker.
[ERROR]: Prerequisite homebrew is not met

Any idea if I'm doing something wrong? I'm on an M1 Max Macbook Pro, if that makes any difference. I have homebrew installed (although it was installed on another user account originally, I've tried reinstalling it which led multiple directories to have the ownership changed to the user shown in the logs, and still get the same error).

homebrew is a required dependency, but for some reason is not asking for an automated install on your side.

Can you try to manually install it, and then try again?

(M1 Max is fine!)

Additional:

Is buildozer running in a non-rosetta terminal?

Is the homebrew installation working properly?

OK, I've got somewhere with it now. Despite having installed and used homebrew, it wasn't being detected, so I reinstalled twice (the second time I had different output to the first), and now the 1.4.1dev0 branch gets further. I'm now stuck with the build apparently progressing (I've got past the blue text which says # Android packages installation done. and it's run a toolchain command, but it's been stuck on that same command for well over two hours now. Code Helper (renderer) is at ~100% CPU usage in activity monitor (although I'm not sure that's the actual thread), and I'm unsure how to progress.

However, in terms of this specific issue I originally filed, I'd say that 1.4.1.dev0 fixes that - thanks for your help there.
