I think this is a wider issue with abbreviations generally. The same is true with US states, so "Monticello, NY" isn't recognised but "Monticello, New York" is.

A similar issue is with "Spring Valley, MN" resolving correctly to Spring Valley Minnesota when using just 'M' but MN resolves to Nevada

Any update on this? It's normal for users in the United States to search with abbreviated states (MN, VT) and currently this isn't working at all. 😢

Anyone have any workarounds?

For a workaround I expand client-side - so if someone ends their query with " VT" I change that to " Vermont" before sending to Photon. It does make it hard to search for this cinema though: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/5453440824
