Use the option wq=0 to remove the quiet area. Note that this is not recommended in general because it may render a barcode unscannable.

The quiet area is part of what the scanner looks for to distinguish a barcode from a random image. Most scanners can scan a QR code with even a minimal quiet area, but will fail if it's eliminated entirely, particularly around the finder patterns (the three big squares in the corners of the QR code). See this post for more details: https://qrworld.wordpress.com/2011/08/09/the-quiet-zone/ The QR spec calls for a quiet area 4x the size of a module (a "pixel" of a QR code) so that is what barcode.php generates by default. If you just want a smaller quiet area, you can combine wq=0 (suppress quiet area) with p=4 (add 4px padding) to get a minimal quiet area.
