its a dualshock 4, im running alpine linux

Like Steam itself doesnt detect it, but GTA 5 itself does

Do you have the special udev rules installed (like described here)?

apk add steam-devices

Also, you can try to add your user to the input group.

Reboot your system after that.

yeah that was the problem, thought this is only for flatpak
